SL Benfica is a Portuguese club from Lisbon, founded on 28 February 1904. It plays at the Estádio da Luz, a ground of about 65,000 places, and competes in the Primeira Liga. Benfica have won the Portuguese championship more than forty times and the European Cup in 1961 and 1962 with a side built around Eusébio. It plays in red and is nicknamed As Águias, the Eagles. Its membership is among the largest of any club in the world.
