Ayr United Football Club is a Scottish club from the coastal town of Ayr in South Ayrshire, formed in 1910 by the merger of Ayr FC and Ayr Parkhouse. It plays at Somerset Park, a ground of about 10,000 places and one of the oldest in Scottish football, and competes in the Championship, the second tier. The club has spent several spells in the top division, most recently in the late 1970s, and reached the League Cup semi-finals more than once. It plays in white and black and is nicknamed the Honest Men, after a line in Burns's Tam o' Shanter.
