Vegalta Sendai is a Japanese football club from Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture, founded in 1988 as the works team of Tohoku Electric. It plays at Yurtec Stadium, a ground of 19,694 places, and competes in the J2 League. The club finished runner-up in the J1 League in 2012, the season after the earthquake and tsunami that devastated the region. It plays in gold and blue. Vegalta is drawn from the stars Vega and Altair of the Tanabata festival the city is known for.
