1. FC Magdeburg is a German football club from Magdeburg in Saxony-Anhalt, founded on 21 December 1965. It plays at the Avnet Arena, a ground of about 30,000 places, and competes in the 2. Bundesliga. In the East German era the club won three Oberliga championships and seven cup titles, and in 1974 it beat Milan to win the Cup Winners' Cup, the only European trophy taken by an East German side. It plays in blue and white and is nicknamed the FCM.
