Nordea is a Nordic financial services group with its headquarters in the Vallila district of Helsinki. It traces its origins to 1820, when Sparekassen for Kjøbenhavn og Omegn was founded in Denmark, and it took its present shape through mergers of the Finnish Merita Bank, the Danish Unibank, the Swedish Nordbanken and the Norwegian Kreditkassen. The group serves private and corporate customers in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden. Stephen Hester is chairman of the board.
