SV Darmstadt 98 is a German football club from Darmstadt in Hesse, founded on 22 May 1898. It plays at the Merck-Stadion am Böllenfalltor, a ground of about 17,800 places, and competes in the 2. Bundesliga. The club reached the Bundesliga in 2015 and again in 2023 after climbing from the fourth tier. It plays in blue and white and is nicknamed Die Lilien, the Lilies. Its rise from near bankruptcy in 2013 is one of the better German football stories of the decade.
